Installing the Drivers - Straight through USB Cable:

  • Purchase a USB cable if you haven't already. Get one (and other cool stuff) here in my eBay Store!
  • Before you plug in your USB to your PC, you need to install the USB Drivers.
  • Run the USBInstaller.exe in the root directory of the Super CD, select VX6000 from the list.
  • Alternate drivers...
  • lgdrivers.exe in the root directory of the Super CD.
  • setup.exe in the Alternate Drivers folder of the Super CD, select the LG 4400 from the list.
  • Finish the driver installation and connect the cable to your computer and phone.
  • Windows will recognize the device and add it as a modem in Device Manager.

Installing the Drivers - Prolific Cable (blob in the middle of cable):

  • Purchase a USB cable if you haven't already. Get one (and other cool stuff) here in my eBay Store!
  • Before you plug in your USB Cable to your PC, you need to install the USB Drivers.
  • Run the PL-2303 Driver Installer.exe in the root directory of the Super CD.
  • If you have trouble with the previous driver, there are several other versions on the disk.
  • Finish the driver installation and connect the cable to your computer (do not connect the phone).
  • Windows will recognize the cable as a device and add it as a Com Port in Device Manager.
  • Verify which Com Port this is set to.

Determining the Port - Straight through USB Cable only:

Many people that request support for this always skip this step. For any program to talk to your phone, the program will need to know what COM Port is assignned to the phone device in Device Manager. Example is for Win XP.

  • Right Click your My Computer Icon, select Manage
  • Click on Device Manager on the left
  • On the right, click the + sign next to modems (you should see your phone listed there)
  • Right click on your phone and select properties
  • Click advanced
  • Click Advanced Port Settings
  • You will see the COM Port setting at the bottom (write it down, you will need it later)

BITPIM:

Please Backup your phone!

  • Load BitPim
  • Go to Edit -> Settings -> and point your COM to the COM Port your LG 5450 is attached to.
  • Click on Filesystems tab, then click on + (as one would do in Windows Explorer)

You can use the steps below or click Data, get phone data and figure out the rest from there or by looking at the VX9800 instructions. There is more detail there. when this was written, bitpim had just updated their program to fully support the 5450 so manipulating the phone via the steps below is not necesarry but still possible.

To Download Camera Images:

  • Click on the +Dcam directory
  • Click on the +Review directory
  • Right click on the Files you want, and click save.
  • Exit Bitpim and Delete Files on LG 5450 using the phone, not PC

To Upload Images and Ringtones onto LG:

You must associate each .desc with their proper *.jpg/png/gif/mid file.
(use a hex editor if your not sure which the .desc file is assocated to)

You MUST rename your *.jpg/png/gif/mid file that you want to upload, to the filename "body".
You must FIRST download a .desc file from any of the directories in the +usr directory to your PC. Make sure you know which .desc file is associated to which file format. If you want to add a ring, download a ring .desc file.   If you want to add a wallpapers, download a wallpaper .desc file.

  • Open Bitpim, click on Filesystem tab, click on +
  • Click on +usr
  • Click on +Wallpaper (or +Ringtone for midi files)
  • Rightclick on Wallpaper and select "Make subdirectory"
  • Name the directory of the image file (ie. Ferrari car)
  • Go to the new directory.
  • Right click on the new directory and select "New file"
  • Upload "body" to the new directory you created
  • Download a .desc from any of the other directories to your PC
  • Upload that same .desc to your directory containing your "body" file

Power down and power up phone. The image or sound file should be in the directory you put it in.
If this does not work, you have an issue w/ the .desc file and need to follow these instrucions:

Instructions:

  • Note the .jpg/.mid/.mp3/.png/.gif/.qcp file size (ie. 12345 bytes)
  • Rename that file to "body"
  • Download any .desc file from the LG 5450 +usr directory
  • Open the .desc file with WinHex (on the cd) or any other hex editor.
  • Delete all the 00's starting from the end until file size reads 156 bytes
(you should end up at offset 9B after deletion)
  • At offset 08, this is where the File Index field starts. Change the value at offset 08 to a number that is DIFFERENT from the other .desc values at offset 08 in the directory where you wish to upload your file. Otherwise if two .desc files in the same directory have the same numbers at offset 08, then you'll have the same label names and you won't be able to assign you Wallpaper or Ringtone properly.
  • Now make sure your content type matches your file. ie. content type "image/jpg" should match your .jpg file you wish to upload and so forth.
  • At offsets 00 01 and 02, input the combined total byte size of both the .desc file (ie. 156 bytes) and the body file (ie. 12345 in our example) = 12501 bytes, in hex format = D5 30
    http://www.ccie.org.uk/resources/hexconv.php
  • Save the modified .desc file.
  • Upload the modified .desc file and associated body file into their respective directories
  • DONE!!!

With an MP3, the only thing you have to do is change the content type of within the .desc file, using a Hex editor, to "audio/mp3". The max size is 2 MB minus what ever you have loded into your "do more" directory.
